Default Regular Study, what's the point?

I just came to think about the regular, non-superior version of Study. They're located in a few of the crafting areas, but do they actually do anything apart from opening your crafting panel if you click it?

All crafting facilities (normal and superior) do the same thing, its an ingame shortcut to open your craft panel. Nothing else

Yeah, but there's nothing that requires a regular study?

A scholar uses the normal Study for items that are of Apprentice, Journeyman and Expert Tier.
When they reach Artisan and upwards they require the use of a Superior Study

Once at Superior Study they can craft items that can be made at normal Study as well.
But at normal Study they can't craft items that require Superior Study

It used to be that, unlike the other professions, a Scholar didn't require a Study (Normal or Superior) to craft the low tier items. In which case, as Maelisteth says: there's nothing that requires a regular study.

I don't know whether it's been changed though: it's years since I looked at those low tiers!

Scholars don't need to use any crafting thingamijigs for the three lowest tiers. You could be standing in the middle of a field or dungeon and be able to craft those bits.

As for what Regular Studies are for... Flavour? Or Scholars were intended once upon a year to have to use them, but that idea got dropped.
